Students Urge Catholic Seattle University to Disinvite Communist Leader Angela Davis

HANOVER, Penn., Sept. 23, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- In the last 72 hours, more than 6,200 people have signed a petition urging Fr. Stephen V. Sundborg, SJ, President of Seattle University to cancel the October 17th speech by, and reception for, 60's radical and communist Angela Davis at the Catholic educational institution. The petition is sponsored by Tradition Family Property Student Action, a group that promotes moral values on college campuses.

That a Catholic educational institution would be willing invite and promote a speaker who stands in stark opposition to the teachings of Christ and His Church stuns the common sense of the Catholic faithful and Puget Sound residents alike.

"It would be difficult to find a speaker who contradicts the teaching of the Catholic Church on more levels and more deeply than Angela Davis," said TFP Student Action Director John Ritchie. "Twice she ran for vice-president of the United States on the Communist Party USA ticket. She is a notorious feminist, socialist and Marxist. To this very day she engages in pro-abortion, pro-same-sex 'marriage' activism."

Even in light of her long-term, anti-Catholic actions, Seattle University plans to host a talk, book signing and reception for Davis on October 17.

"Communism has killed 100 million people. By its very nature, communist doctrine and its regimes target Catholics specifically. Compounding the historical travesties of communism is that countless more people still suffer from its death grip in Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam and China. So why does this anti-Catholic, anti-human rights ideology lurk with impunity in the halls of Catholic academia?" Ritchie asked.

"Even worse, why is Seattle University giving Davis a platform on its Catholic campus when she publicly merges abortion and same-sex 'marriage' with Marxist theory, perpetuating the same communist ideas that have caused so much bloodshed, terror, slavery and misery?"

According to the record, Davis was an active member of the Black Panther Party and even landed a prominent place on the FBI's "10 Most Wanted List". In recent speeches, she has renewed her fanatical dedication to abortion and homosexual "marriage."

"If these reasons are not sufficient grounds to cancel Angela Davis' appearance at Seattle University, then where will Catholic students turn to find truth and honor within higher education?" asked Ritchie.

"At this point, quite a few Seattle University alumni are wishing they had never graduated from this university. Catholics are also hoping university officials will do the right thing and move quickly to rescind the school's invitation to Angela Davis."
