With God neglected, the demons move in; “Evil Dead” is # 1

Resurrected demons in the demonic horror movie “Evil Dead” are drawing movie viewers in mass.  It was the No. 1 movie over the weekend with $26 million in ticket sales.

This is symptomatic of a society that had abandoned God and the sublime.  The soul is never empty.  Either God is there, or the devil moves in.

There is the conscious turning away from holy and spiritual things as well as a cultural regime where sublime goals or religious ideals are looked upon with suspicion and simply not considered an important part of our lives.

The intensive feverish activity of modern life often is an attempt to hide low spirits and lack of joy.

But, ultimately, feverish activity in our modern society is not an end in itself. It is a stage in the path towards something worse, towards the demonic.

That is why we see so many people are flocking to see “Evil Dead.”

  1. I saw the original "funny one" years ago, but have no interest in watching the new one, which is probably darker and lacks the humor. Spent the weekend with my family and remembered what Jesus Christ did for all of us. Infinitely better use of my time, which is running out.
