On this day in 1949, Hungarian Communists sentenced the great Cardinal Mindszenty to life in prison...why?

Because he would not give in -- not even an inch -- to the Communist regime in Hungary.  What a shining example of Catholic honor, glory and courage that we sorely need today, in our world of shame, cowardice and complicity with evil.

In the panorama of general shame and confusion today, Cardinal Mindszenty stands like a tall tower of unconformity; he stands like an unyielding sign of truth and honor; he would not give in or even budge an inch to accommodate the Communists; he saved the honor of the Church and mankind.

His example -- the example of a selfless and heroic shepherd, with the prestige of a Cardinal -- proved to Catholics that is it NOT licit to follow the multitudes who kneel before false gods.
